Why do I need additional coverage?

Does Original Medicare cover these benefits?

Original Medicare only covers dental, vision, and hearing when it is related to a medical necessity for another Medicare-covered service. It does not provide routine coverage for these areas.

DENTAL COVERAGE

Original Medicare has very limited dental coverage, only in situations tied to another Medicare-covered health service. It does not cover routine checkups, cleanings, fillings, dentures, or most tooth extractions. Medicare Supplements also do not add these benefits.

If you would like ongoing coverage for dental needs, you can add a private dental insurance plan. These plans typically help with preventive care, basic procedures, and sometimes major services.

VISION COVERAGE

Original Medicare does not cover routine eye exams, eyeglasses, or contact lenses. It only provides limited help after cataract surgery or for certain diagnostic tests, glaucoma screenings (for high-risk individuals), or medically necessary treatments.

If you want coverage for regular eye exams, glasses, or contact lenses, you can add a private vision insurance plan. This helps with routine care and additional eyewear needs.

HEARING BENEFITS

Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids. Part B may cover diagnostic hearing and balance exams if ordered by your provider, but not the cost of devices themselves.

If you would like coverage for hearing aids and routine hearing exams, you can add a private hearing insurance plan. These plans help reduce the cost of devices and services not covered by Medicare.
